For you

You Belong Here If…

  • A pregnant woman in a peach silk saree stands smiling in a tall plaster archway, one hand beneath her bump.

    Feel beautiful

You want to feel beautiful in a body that doesn’t quite feel like yours yet.

  • Black-and-white portrait of a pregnant woman in a ruffled tulle gown standing before an arched alcove framed by dried flowers.

    Life is full

You’ve been meaning to book this but keep putting it off because life is already full.

  • An expectant couple stand in a lake and gaze at each other, her hand on his arm and the other under her bump.

    Simply arrive

You want someone else to handle the posing, the direction and the vision — so you can simply arrive and be present.

  • An expectant couple dressed in white smile at each other, her hand on her bump, in a bright white studio.

    For your walls

You want images worthy of your walls, not just your phone.

Planning your session

When Is the Perfect Time?

  1. Weeks 14–20 weeks

    Early Bump

For documenting the beginning. Subtle bumps photograph beautifully too, and this suits anyone wanting a series across more than one trimester.

  2. Weeks 24–28 weeks

    The Window for Twins

Carrying multiples? This is the recommended window — the bump is full and you are still comfortable. We keep the session relaxed and work with your energy.

  3. Weeks 28–34 weeks

    The Classic Window

The most booked timeframe by a distance. The bump is beautifully round, you still have mobility and energy, and the light catches every curve.

Past 34 weeks? It is not too late.

Your dates

Find your window

Tell us your due date and we’ll show the weeks that photograph best, as real dates.

Get in touch and we will find the right approach for your body and your timeline.

The ideal window is between 28 and 34 weeks — when the bump is beautifully defined and you are still comfortable enough to enjoy the session. Every pregnancy is different, though, so we tailor the timing to you.

Carrying twins? We recommend scheduling earlier, around 24 to 28 weeks.

Photography That Tells Your Story

Vithu, smiling, in a light grey sweater against a dark background.

Vithu directs every pose, every angle and every detail, so you never have to wonder whether you look alright. You just get to feel it.

Maternity sessions are the most personal work we do. There is something particular about photographing the strength and anticipation of this stage, while it is still happening.

A laughing man hugs his pregnant partner from behind, his hand over hers on her bump, as she smiles with her eyes half closed.

For your partner

A Note for Partners

All you have to do is turn up and hold her the way you already do.

Most partners walk in nervous and walk out saying it was one of the better hours they have spent together.

We know the session is about her — but you are part of this story too.

You do not need to be comfortable in front of a camera. We direct every pose, every hand placement, every look. All you have to do is turn up and hold her the way you already do.

  2. An expectant couple rest their foreheads together, eyes closed, his hand on her bump, in a pale plaster studio.

All you have to do is turn up and hold her the way you already do.

Your questions

Before You Come

  • A pregnant woman in a fitted white dress stands in shallow lake water, eyes lowered, her hands on her bump.

    Not feeling photogenic?

Clients routinely tell us they have never felt better about photographs of themselves, and most of them were thinking exactly what you are thinking now before they booked.

You do not need to be — that is our job. We direct every pose, every angle and every expression.

  • A toddler in navy velvet rests her cheek on her pregnant mother's bump as her mother smiles down at her.

    Partner, children, pets?

Yes, and we encourage it. If you have a toddler we keep things relaxed and work with their energy rather than against it. Pets are welcome too.

We give part of the session to family portraits and part to solo portraits of you.

  • A smiling pregnant woman in a blush off-shoulder dress holds her bump with one hand and her partner's arm with the other.

    What to wear

Bring two or three options so we have flexibility on the day. After booking we send a detailed styling guide.

The guide covers colours, fabrics and silhouettes that photograph well at this stage. Flowing fabrics, soft neutrals and fitted pieces that celebrate the bump all work beautifully.

Colours for your setting: studio, outdoors and at home ↓

  • An expectant couple in traditional dress rest their foreheads together, his hands over hers on her bump.

    Hair and makeup?

We recommend it. If you do not have someone, we can recommend an artist.

Professional hair and makeup makes a noticeable difference to how you feel during the session, and that confidence shows in the photographs.

  • An expectant couple stand knee-deep in a lake, he hugs her from behind with his hands on her bump, both smiling at the camera.

    Rain on the day?

We reschedule — no fee, no stress.

We watch the forecast and will be in touch in advance if conditions look poor. If rain is a possibility we can either move to the next available date or shift indoors to Mint Room Studios or Preto Loft.

Dress for your setting

What to wear

Pick your setting and we’ll tell you what works there. Bring two or three options and we’ll help you choose on the day.

Mint Room

White walls: let colour carry the portrait.

Most Mint Room rooms are white, cream or pale, so pure white and very pale tints fade into the walls. Tap your room for colours that stand out in it, or use these in any of them. Not sure which room? Ask us.

  • Deep on whiteNavy, camel, oatmeal
  • Soft on whiteSage, dusty blue, stone

Wear

  • Mid and deeper tones: navy, burgundy, olive, camel
  • Warm oatmeal rather than stark white
  • Texture: knit, linen, corduroy, denim

Skip

  • Pure white: edges disappear into the walls
  • Very pale pastels that wash out
  • Busy patterns and large logos

Love an all-white look? Add one deeper layer, like a denim jacket or a camel coat, so everyone still reads.

Preto Loft

Bright, grey and brick: bring the warmth.

Preto Loft is a New York-style loft with tall factory windows, exposed brick and a lot of light. Tap your room for colours that stand out in it, or use these in any of them. Not sure which room? Ask us.

Outdoors

Colour that glows in natural light.

Golden light flatters flowing fabric and warm, soft tones. Choose something that moves and shows your bump.

  • Warm neutralsCream, sand, camel
  • Blush & sageBlush, sage, ivory

Wear

  • A fitted dress or gown that shows your bump
  • Flowing skirts and sleeves that catch the wind
  • Soft neutrals with one muted colour
  • Your partner and children in the same palette, not the same colour

Skip

  • Stiff or heavy fabrics that hide the bump
  • Bold prints and large logos
  • Shoes that are hard to walk in on uneven ground

Bring a light wrap: fabric over the shoulders makes a lovely second look.

At home

Soft, simple and yours.

At home we use the light and the rooms you live in. Choose pieces that feel like you.

  • Cosy creamCream, sand, blush
  • Soft blue-greyDusty blue, ivory, stone

Wear

  • A fitted robe, knit or simple dress that shows the bump
  • Soft textures: knit, cotton, silk
  • A plain tee and jeans for the relaxed frames
  • Bare feet or warm socks

Skip

  • Busy patterns that blend into your decor
  • Shapeless layers that hide the bump
  • Neon and large logos

Send us a photo of the room you would like to use and we’ll suggest colours.

For every setting: shape

  • Fitted shows the bump; flowing gives movement. Bring one of each.
  • Choose fabric with some stretch: you’ll be turning, stepping and sitting.
  • A gown, a fitted dress, or a shirt and skirt all work. Your partner and children coordinate; they don’t match.
  • Coordinate, don’t matchThree shades: two neutrals and one accent.

How it works

A Session Designed Around You

Not a rushed thirty minutes: a guided experience, from your first message to your finished portraits.

This is not a rushed thirty minutes. It is a guided experience, from the moment you inquire to the moment your finished portraits arrive.

  1. Step 1

    The Consultation

We start with a conversation — your aesthetic, your comfort level, who you would like to include.

We settle location and the overall feel so that every detail is deliberate.

Not ready yet? Ask anyway. You’ll get availability and pricing before you commit to anything.

    Your match:

    Check your date

    Reply within one business day

  2. Step 2

    Your Session

Guided, unhurried and entirely yours. In studio or outdoors, we direct every pose and cover every angle. Bring your partner. Bring your children. Bring the dog. We make room for all of it.

  3. Step 3

    Your Gallery

    1 week

Gallery proofs arrive within 48 hours. One week after your session your gallery is ready (three weeks for the two-hour Complete session), and we walk you through it — helping you choose your favourites and talking through print and album options if you want them.

Where we shoot

Our Favourite Locations

  • Mint Room Studios & Preto Loft

    Year-Round

Our go-to indoor studio. Beautiful natural light, dressed backdrops, and no weather to plan around. Preto Loft is a New York-style loft with tall factory windows and exposed brick. Best for a polished, editorial feel at any time of year.

  • Scarborough Bluffs

    Summer & Early Fall

Cliffs, open sky and golden light over Lake Ontario. Cinematic at golden hour. There is a moderate walk down to the beach, so we plan around your comfort.

  • Evergreen Brick Works

    Year-Round

Industrial texture, lush planting, and both indoor and outdoor options in one place.

  • Edwards Gardens

    Best in Late Spring

Manicured beds, stone bridges and soft diffused light. Romantic and timeless, and especially beautiful in bloom.

  • Your Home

    Year-Round

Some of the most meaningful maternity portraits happen where you live. The nursery, the bedroom, your favourite window. In-home sessions feel relaxed, and that comfort shows.

  • High Park

    Best in Spring & Fall

Wide meadows, shaded trails and golden light through old-growth trees. Easy underfoot, which matters more in the third trimester than people expect.

Sessions run in studio at Mint Room Studios or Preto Loft, outdoors across Toronto and the GTA, or in your own home. Every location brings something different to a portrait.

Not sure which suits you? We’ll talk it through at your consultation and match the setting to what you have in mind.

FAQ

Common Questions

When should I schedule my maternity session?

Between 28 and 34 weeks for most people, when the bump is beautifully defined and you are still comfortable. Every pregnancy is different — if you are carrying twins, aim for 24 to 28 weeks, and if you are past 34 weeks get in touch anyway and we will work with your timeline.

How far in advance should I book?

As early as your second trimester if you want a particular date or location. Four to six weeks ahead is comfortable most of the year; spring and fall fill faster than that.

How many photos will I receive?

Rather than hundreds of unedited files, you get a curated gallery: up to 20 finished images with the Basic session, 30 with the Popular session and up to 60 with the Complete session. Every one is individually retouched and colour-graded.

How soon will I see my photos?

Your gallery proofs arrive within 48 hours, and your finished gallery is ready one week after your session (within three weeks for the two-hour Complete session). If you order prints or an album, those follow separately once you have made your selections.

More questions
Can my partner and children be in the session?

Yes, and we encourage it. We give part of the session to family portraits and part to solo portraits of you. If you have a toddler we keep things relaxed and work with their energy rather than against it. Pets are welcome too.

What if I don’t feel photogenic?

You do not need to be — that is our job. We direct every pose, every angle and every expression. Clients routinely tell us they have never felt better about photographs of themselves, and most of them were thinking exactly what you are thinking now before they booked.

Do I need to bring my own outfits?

Yes, and it is worth planning them in advance. After booking we send a detailed styling guide covering colours, fabrics and silhouettes that photograph well at this stage. Bring two or three options so we have flexibility on the day. Flowing fabrics, soft neutrals and fitted pieces that celebrate the bump all work beautifully.

Should I arrive with hair and makeup done?

We recommend it. Professional hair and makeup makes a noticeable difference to how you feel during the session, and that confidence shows in the photographs. If you do not have someone, we can recommend an artist.

What happens if it rains on the day?

We reschedule — no fee, no stress. We watch the forecast and will be in touch in advance if conditions look poor. If rain is a possibility we can either move to the next available date or shift indoors to Mint Room Studios or Preto Loft.

An expectant couple walk hand in hand through a field of tall dried grasses, her hand on her bump.

This chapter is brief and extraordinary. Let’s make sure you remember exactly how it felt.
