The 7 Best Locations for Maternity Photos in Toronto (2026 Guide)
Choosing the right location for your maternity session can feel overwhelming — Toronto is full of beautiful spots, and every backdrop tells a different story. After hundreds of maternity sessions across the city, I've rounded up my absolute favourite spots for outdoor and urban maternity photography in Toronto. Whether you love lush greenery, golden-hour light, or the texture of a cobblestone street, there's a perfect spot here for you.
1. High Park — Best for Nature & Golden Hour
High Park is my most-booked outdoor maternity location, and for good reason. The park's sweeping meadows, forested trails, and iconic Grenadier Pond offer a lush, natural backdrop that photographs beautifully year-round. In late April and early May, the cherry blossom grove transforms into something truly magical — soft pink blooms that create a dreamy, romantic look for maternity portraits.
Best time to shoot: Spring (cherry blossoms) or late summer for golden-hour light. Parking: Available off Colborne Lodge Drive. Pro tip: book your session for an hour before sunset for the warmest light.

2. Evergreen Brick Works — Best for Urban-Nature Fusion
Evergreen Brick Works is one of Toronto's most unique and photogenic locations. The former quarry blends dramatic brick walls, wildflower meadows, and peaceful wetlands into a setting that looks completely unlike anything else in the city. It's especially popular with mamas who want something a little more editorial or artistic — the industrial textures against soft maternity gowns create a striking contrast that photographs beautifully.
Best time to shoot: Summer and early fall, when the meadow flowers are in full bloom. The space is also perfect for golden-hour sessions. Free parking is available on-site.

3. The Distillery District — Best for an Urban, Elegant Look
If you love cobblestone streets, Victorian industrial architecture, and a slightly moody, editorial feel, the Distillery District is your spot. The red-brick buildings and lantern-lined alleyways create a warm, textured backdrop that makes maternity gowns absolutely pop. Sessions here tend to feel more fashion-forward and timeless — think elegant silhouettes and romantic light filtering between historic buildings.
Best time to shoot: Weekday mornings before the area gets busy, or evening sessions in fall and winter for a cozy, intimate feel. This is also a great option for couples who want a more sophisticated, city-feel session.

4. Toronto Islands — Best for a Serene, Waterfront Session
The Toronto Islands offer a completely different energy from the rest of the city — quiet, breezy, and beautifully serene. With sweeping views of Lake Ontario, weeping willows, and peaceful paths, the islands are perfect for intimate, soft-light maternity sessions. The ferry ride itself is part of the experience, and the lack of car traffic makes it easy to find quiet, secluded spots.
Best time to shoot: Late spring through early fall (ferry runs seasonally). Sunset sessions on the western shore are particularly stunning. Plan for a 20-minute ferry from the Jack Layton Ferry Terminal.
5. Sherwood Park — Best-Kept Secret in Midtown
Sherwood Park is one of Toronto's most underrated maternity photography spots, and one of my personal favourites. Tucked into Midtown Toronto, this ravine park feels completely removed from the city — deep forest trails, a babbling creek, and dappled light filtering through a canopy of old maples. It photographs beautifully and is far less crowded than High Park.
Best time to shoot: Fall is extraordinary here — rich amber and gold tones that make for incredibly warm, cozy maternity portraits. Summer is also lovely for that lush, green forest look.
6. The Beaches Boardwalk — Best for a Relaxed, Coastal Vibe
If you live in East Toronto or just love a beach setting, the Beaches boardwalk offers a relaxed, breezy backdrop that's perfect for lifestyle-style maternity sessions. The wide-open sky, sandy shore, and Lake Ontario views create a sense of freedom and space that I find translates beautifully in maternity photos. Sessions here tend to feel very natural and unposed — romantic walks along the water, quiet moments on the sand.
Best time to shoot: Summer evenings for golden-hour light, or early fall for warm tones and fewer crowds.
7. Studio — Best When You Want Total Control
Sometimes the best backdrop is a clean, simple studio — especially if you want to focus on timeless, minimalist portraits rather than a specific location. Studio sessions offer complete control over lighting, privacy, and comfort, which many mamas (especially later in pregnancy) find much more relaxing than outdoor shoots. They're also weather-proof and available year-round.
Studio sessions are available through my Toronto studio and are a wonderful option for combining with an outdoor session for variety.
How to Choose the Right Location
The best location for your session is the one that feels most like you. When we connect for your consultation call, I always ask a few questions: Do you love lush nature or urban textures? Are you an East-ender or more of a West-sider? Do you want a serene, intimate feel or something a bit more dramatic? There's no wrong answer — we'll find the perfect spot together.
